Police have arrested two suspects in connection with alleged assault of a young man in Defence Phase 8 of Karachi and lodged a complaint with Sahil police station.
Police said that the suspects were identified as Malik Ibrahim and Waqar, and they were trying to get hold of other people who were allegedly involved in the incident.
So far, two people have been arrested in the case, according to South DIG Asad Raza.
The victim, Ali Jafri, has stated that it was not for monetary reasons and that he did not know the people who attacked him.
I didn’t even know what I did wrong to be beaten. I don’t know them,” Jafri said.
He told police that he was taken away in a car and assaulted. He was forced into the vehicle and only learned the names of the suspects after he was forced into the vehicle, Jafri said.
A video later surfaced online of the alleged attack, in which several men are seen attacking the young man.
Initial information shows that Malik Ibrahim had called Jafri to Bukhari Commercial and then allegedly took him to another place which falls under the police jurisdiction of Sahil police.
Ibrahim and two others allegedly tortured Jafri in the incident, sources said. He was allegedly beaten with sticks and his leg broken and his hair forcibly cut.
The suspects also allegedly forced the victim to abuse himself.
The attack reportedly occurred on Aug. 29. Police has already lodged an FIR with Sahil police station under the sections of attempted murder, assault, criminal intimidation and outraging the victim’s dignity.
DIG South Asad Raza stated that the investigation was ongoing, and police were trying to round up the remaining suspects.
The case has garnered public attention after a video of the alleged assault went viral on social media.
