India Recall Kohli and Rohit for West Indies ODI Series

India pick Kohli, Rohit for West Indies ODIs; Nigam joins Asian Games squad

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been called up to the 50-over format team for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

Shubman Gill will remain as the ODI captain of the Indian team while KL Rahul will now serve as the vice-captain. The series will kick off in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are also making their ODI comeback. Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir have got their first ODI cap. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Mohammed Siraj are the other seven players in the squad of 15.

With the return of Kohli and Rohit, India now has two of its most experienced batters for the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle. Despite their smaller involvement in other forms, both Kohli and Rohit had been a part of India’s 50-over plans.

India have also declared their team for the T20I series against West Indies, which will kick off in Lucknow on October 6. That team will be led by Shreyas Iyer with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the team. There are five T20 internationals between India and The West Indies.

Previously, India has a one-off T20 international vs Japan on September 22 before the T20 series in West Indies. From this point onwards, the team will play in the Asian Games at the quarter-final stage on September 28.

The Asian Games team also has undergone a change. Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out owing to a side strain and Nitish Kumar Reddy has been dropped from the Games squad in favour of the ODI squad for the West Indies series.

The changes in the squad for the upcoming Asian Games have Vipraj Nigam replacing Chakaravarthy. Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant do not feature in any of the teams announced by the country.
