In March 2027, FIFA will stage a presidential election, which Gianni Infantino is aiming to win a second time.
FIFA announced that Infantino is sticking around for the re-election, as there is increasing pressure on his leadership and a call for him to step down.
In April, Infantino already announced that he would run for re-election, and that his position has not changed, according to a FIFA spokesperson.
The election will be held at the FIFA Congress in Morocco next year. If anyone wants to run against Infantino, they have until Nov. 18 to announce their candidacy.
Infantino has been under flames in recent weeks, as he tries to lure private investors into FIFA’s big events. The plan was dropped later on as it had the support of a number of football organisations such as UEFA.
UEFA has continued to doubt Infantino’s leadership and football associations in several geographical zones have also raised concerns over his position.
So far, Infantino has not budged, and has continued to attend FIFA’s gatherings and meetings with football associations around the world.
FIFA’s 211 member associations have one vote each in the presidential election, providing Infantino with a wide array of potential supporters.
When asked about his political future, Infantino was at the Women’s U20 World Cup in Poland this week but did not comment on his ongoing battle with UEFA.
